Don’t believe everything you think.
Therapy for anxiety in Birmingham, AL
You're exhausted from constantly feeling overwhelmed and overthinking.
It’s like you can never feel content and carefree.
Maybe you have always been anxious but feel like it has been getting worse recently. You’re struggling to fall asleep at night because you can’t shut off your brain. You may wonder if friends, partners, coworkers, etc are mad at you or if they even like you. Or how about that doctor’s appointment you can’t bring yourself to call and schedule. Maybe none of this sounds familiar but you do know you feel panicked too often and experience moments of nausea, shortness of breath, heart racing, headaches, fidgeting and more.
Anxiety doesn’t look or feel the same for everyone; but untreated, the result is almost always the same: avoidance. Like: deciding to stay home instead of go out with friends; calling in sick to work; procrastinating school or work assignments or even household chores; doing something you don’t want to do rather than say no.
I’m here for you.
You can be anxious and still live the life you want.
Two things can be true at the same time. Anxiety is a emotion. We all experience it and for a reason. My goal isn’t that you never feel anxious again, but instead that you understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what you can do about it.
Feel familiar?
Struggling to manage racing thoughts
Ready to stop avoiding your life
Wishing you could worry less and be more present
Hoping you don’t have a panic attack
Here’s what we’ll do together
Therapy for anxiety can help you take back control.
We will work together to explore your current symptoms of anxiety and discuss coping skills to choose from. You will learn when and how to use them. Coping skills aren’t always about making anxiety “go away”. Often times, they are for preventing it from getting worse, especially in the moment. Not all coping skills work for everyone and that’s ok! We will keep working until you find what works for you.
Next, we will work to identify anxious thoughts and other unhelpful ways of thinking. We cannot change anything we aren’t aware of, so this is an important step of the process. Then, you will learn ways to “retrain your brain” i.e.: challenge, stop, and/or distract from anxious thoughts and not allow them to derail your day.
When all is said and done, here’s the thing:
You are more resilient than you think.
What we’ll work on
Imagine a life where…
01you can calm yourself down
Your anxiety doesn’t have to spiral out of control. Imagine being able to put into practice what you have learned and prevent a panic attack or feel improvement with each cleansing breath.
02you can feel excited for the future
What if excitement was the primary emotion when thinking about your future? It is possible to be able to look forward to things again (even if you still feel a little anxious about it).
03you have control over your thoughts
You don’t have to imagine all the different way something could go wrong to feel better. “Prepare for the worst and hope for the best” isn’t actually helping you.
Feel the peace you’ve been longing for.
Relief is possible. I’ll help you get there.

Counseling is most helpful when you are ready to make a change. This means confronting thoughts and symptoms you may have been avoiding.
I will be with you every step of the way, but there will be work to do outside of sessions. You will need to practice skills taught in sessions and may be asked to keep a record of occurrences of anxiety in order for us to gain better understanding of your symptoms and ultimately provide some relief.
